History
Talisman Foundation has been providing services to people with mental health conditions for over 40 years. Mental health care continues to adapt and improve and Talisman remains at the forefront of quality South African Mental Health Services.

The foundation first opened in 1979 as a residential home in Parktown, Johannesburg. It originally provided custodial care to the loved ones of a group of families who could not find suitable services in Johannesburg. The foundation grew and adapted to a recovery model that promoted independent living. In 2003 the foundation moved to The Hill, Johannesburg South to cater for more people.

Talisman Foundation is a leading example of an excellent quality mental health care service. The foundation is highly recommended by leading psychiatric hospitals in South Africa and well linked to other non-government organisations that are campaigning for the rights and care of mental health care users. The foundation accommodates up to 200 people and provides food, medications, mental health care, physical health care and a full rehabilitative program.
