Meet The Team

Talisman Foundation have a diverse and professional team comprising of management, facilitators, care workers, general staff and security. The foundation recognises the skills of its qualified and experienced staff and promotes ongoing training. 

General Manager

Sister Val Cook has over 30 years of experience working in mental health services as a qualified and registered psychiatric nurse. She has worked at renowned facilities including Tara Psychiatric Hospital as a ward manager for many years. She is specialised in recognising and treating chronic and acute mental health conditions.

Financial Manager

Timothy Makoni has worked for Talisman Foundation for over 8 years. He is a qualified accountant and he ensures that the foundation is compliant and financially stable. The foundation is audited annually.

Psychiatrist

Dr Brummerhoff is a qualified and registered psychiatrist. He is a practicing consultant at Helen Joseph Hospital. He is specialised in treating and prescribing for mental health conditions. 

Senior Psycho-Social Facilitator

Mbali Nyathi is a registered counsellor with an honours degree in psychology. Mbali has worked for South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (SANCA) and is specialised in substance misuse and addiction. Mbali runs groups focused on discharge and employment.

Social Worker

Linet Maira is a qualified and registered social worker.  Linet is experienced in mental health and previously completed volunteer placements at Talisman Foundation. Linet runs groups focused on insight in to mental health conditions. 

Psycho-Social Facilitator

Isabelle Dywili is a registered counsellor with the HPCSA. Isabelle runs part of the Vocational Skills Training Program at Talisman and her groups are focused on occupational skills and employment. She has previously run her own practice and is passionate about promoting holistic development of the individual.
 

 

Psycho-Social Facilitator

Mandla Mahlangu has a bachelor's degree in Health Science and Social Services with specialization in community and health psychology and is currently studying for his honours in psychology. He has experience with the Department of Health and Refilwe Clinic. His groups are focused on community and social involvement for residents who are unable or unlikely to find employment at the current time. 

Facilitator

Buhle Dube has over 12 years experience at Talisman Foundation working with mental health care users. She runs groups focused on improving social and community skills for residents who are unable or unlikely to find employment at the current time.

Board of Directors

The board of directors comprise of six elected members, the head of establishment and a staff representative. Membership hereof is open to all members of the public in good standing. In accordance with non-profit organisation act (act 71 of 1997) the affairs of the Talisman Foundation shall at times be controlled by a board. Such members shall be appointed or elected by ballot at the Annual General Meeting.
